Trichy: Two persons were nabbed by Narcotics Intelligence Bureau Criminal Investigation Department (NIBCID) at Trichy Junction railway station while smuggling 16 kg ganja from Odisha to Tamil Nadu on Howrah Express.
The arrested men have been identified as R Mariappan, 51, and T Muthukumar, 27 of of Reddiarpatti in Tirunelveli. They were found in possession of 16 kg of ganja packed in eight parcels, each weighing 2kg.
Police said the total value of the contraband was Rs3.2 lakh.
The duo was nabbed during a routine check on the train by NIBCID and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) on Tuesday morning. Preliminary investigations revealed that they were smuggling ganja from Berhampur in Odisha and had intended to take it to Tirunelveli by road after alighting at Trichy, a TOI report said.
