Boudh: A tragic hit-and-run accident early Tuesday morning claimed the lives of two persons on National Highway 57 near Telibandha Chhak in Odisha’s Boudh district.
According to sources, the accident occurred around 4.30 am when a speeding vehicle allegedly rammed into a car, forcing it off the road and into a nearby agricultural field. The victims, who were traveling from Boudh towards Sonepur, were rescued from the mangled remains of the car by local residents who rushed to the scene after hearing the crash. They were immediately taken to the Boudh district headquarters hospital but were declared dead on arrival.
The bodies have been sent for postmortem examination, and the damaged car has been seized by police, which is investigating the circumstances leading to the accident. Efforts are also underway to identify and apprehend the driver of the vehicle, which escaped the scene immediately after the crash.
National Highway 57, a busy corridor connecting Khurda with Balangir, is notorious for heavy traffic and frequent speeding incidents. Local residents have expressed growing concerns over reckless driving and inadequate enforcement on the highway. They have urged authorities to increase patrolling and install speed-monitoring systems along accident-prone stretches.
