Jeypore: Efforts are underway to rescue two labourers who got trapped inside heap of boulders at Bariput under Bisingpur in Koraput district on Thursday evening.
The victims have been identified as Ghanashyam Guru and Sanjay Das.
The duo was working as JCB operators at Telingiri irrigation project area when earth caved in suddenly and they got trapped inside the heap of boulders with the machines.
“The fire personnel were rushed to the spot immediately after receiving the information but failed to rescue the victims due to darkness of the night. However, operations have been started by a joint team of ODRAF and fire officials this morning. The duo can easily be taking out by conducting a blast at the site. But it could be dangerous for their lives. We are hopeful that the victims will be rescued soon”, a fire official informed.
Reports suggest that the hill apparently caved in during illegal stone quarrying. The trapped workers are feared dead. It has been more than 18 hours since the mishap occurred.
