Two Maoists Killed In Fire Exchange In Odisha’s Kandhamal

Bhubaneswar: Two armed Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Kandhamal district on Thursday.

In a virtual press briefing, Director General of Police Abhay said on specific information about movement of armed Maoist cadres in the area under Tumulibandh police station, a team of police and SOG personnel were rushed to the spot.

On the arrival of the police team, the Maoists opened fire and the security forces were engaged in fire exchange in retaliation and self-defence. Later, two bodies of Maoists including a male and a female were found at the spot, the DGP said.

Police also seized some weapons including a rifle, one carbine and two country-made guns from the encounter site.

The search and combing operation was launched to trace the Maoists, the DGP said.
