Bhubaneswar: Two more petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court for reconsideration of its order on cancellation of Rath Yatra across Odisha due to the prevailing COVID-19 condition. With this, five petitions have been filed in the court.
The new petitions, filed by Bijan Paikaray of Nayagarh and Sanjeeb Chinnara, have appealed to the apex court for partial modification in its order issued on Thursday. Their lawyer is Pranaya Mohapatra.
They have appealed to allow the Ratha Jatra only in Puri scheduled on June 23 by enforcing complete shutdown in the Pilgrim Town, if required.
Hearing a petition filed by NGO Odisha Vikash Parishad, a three-judge Supreme Court bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde had said it would not be appropriate to hold the Rath Yatra this year.
On Friday, three review petitions were filed in the Supreme Court. While Aftab Hossen from Nayagarh district had filed a petition, Jagannath Sanskruti Jana Jagaran Manch, which was an intervenor in the Rath Yatra case in the SC, filed another. The third petition was filed by Laxmidhar Biswal of Astaranga in Puri district.
