Bhubaneswar: In view of the exponential growth in rail traffic and passenger footfall, railways have decided to construct two more platforms in Bhubaneswar railway station.
Railway Board Chairman (CRB) V K Yadav, who visited the station this morning, told reporters that two more platforms will be build to cater to the increasing passenger movement. At present, the station has six operational platforms, handling more than 100 train movements every day.
Yadav informed that restoration work of Puri and Bhubaneswar railway stations, affected by cyclone Fani, has been completed and Khurda Road division will be felicitated for the feat.
The CRB said the Bhubaneswar station main entrance will be redeveloped with the help of State Government and all the issues regarding the signing of MoU with the state Government has been sorted out. It will be signed soon.

- The second entry from PF-6 side of the station will be developed and funds has been provided to improve circulating area and road connectivity to the station.
- He said a survey work has been sanctioned for a new rail corridor bypassing Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. Once it is completed, the existing corridor will be made free from freight train movement so that more trains could be run between these two cities.
- All the engine will be fitted with GPS system by the end of this financial year to know the real-time position of the Trains. It will operate on Real-time Information System (RTIS) with the help of ISRO satellite.
- He clarified that there will be no fund constraint for any project as additional fund can be provided through Extra Budgetary resources (EBR) for the economically viable projects.
