Two-Time Olympic Medallist Sushil Kumar To Face Murder Trial
New Delhi: Double Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar will have to face trial for murder along with 17 others.
Delhi’s Rohini court on Wdnesday framed charges relating to murder, attempt to murder, rioting, unlawful assembly and other sections, including criminal conspiracy, against Sushil and the others in the murder case of junior wrestler Sagar Rana, NDTV reported.
Charges have also been framed against two other accused persons who are absconding.
In its chargesheet, Delhi Police stated that Sushil planned a conspiracy which resulted in a brawl at Chhatrasal Stadium last year. Sushil and his acquaintances allegedly thrashed Sagar and his friends at the stadium on May 4, 2021. Sagar later succumbed to the serious injuries.

For about three weeks, Sushil was on the run before being arrested by Delhi Police from Mundka region in the national Capital.
The 39-year-old Sushil, who won a bronze medal in 2008 Beijing Olympics and silver in 2012 London Olympics, has been lodged in jail for over 16 months. After being in Mandoli jail for about a month, he was shifted to Tihar prison. His bail plea, opposed by Delhi Police, was rejected by the court.
