UGC Grants 10-Year Autonomous Status Extension To BJB College In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has approved the extension of autonomous status for BJB College in Bhubaneswar for another 10 years.

In its meeting on January 30, the UGC approved the recommendation of its Standing Committee on autonomous colleges, granting extension to BJB, affiliated with Utkal University, covering th

e period from the academic year 2022-23 through 2031-32. The decision includes ex-post-facto approval to regularise the gap period from 2022 to 2025, in line with Conferment of Autonomous Status Upon Colleges and Measures for Maintenance of Standards in Autonomous Colleges Regulations, 2023.

BJB College was initially granted autonomous status from the 1999-2000 academic session. This latest extension allows the institution to continue enjoying greater academic flexibility, including curriculum design, examination processes, and other privileges associated with autonomous status.

The UGC has directed Utkal University to issue the necessary official notification within 30 days, formalising the extension in accordance with 2023 regulations.
