UGC Reaches Out To Campus Before Finalising Draft Education Policy

New Delhi: As a student, are you happy with the recommendations of the draft national education policy? How about proposing that one idea you feel could transform the education sector.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has decided to engage universities and colleges in the country to share their thoughts during the deliberation process.

In a letter to the vice chancellors, UGC has requested organising series of discussions on the recommendation in the campus before the proposals are finalised.

“Indulgence of academic fraternity in insightful discussions and highlighting major recommendations along with the outcome on the proposed reforms is solicited,” the letter said.

The exercise has to be completed by July 22.

The last date for giving feedback to the draft policy has been extended to July 31.

The 484-page draft comprises recommendations related to ‘School Education’, ‘Higher Education,’ ‘Additional Key Focus Areas,’ and ‘Transforming Education’.

This presumably will be the first time when the proposals will be taken up deliberations at campuses.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sithraman, while presenting the budget on Friday had said the policy will seek to transform India’s higher education system to one of the global best education systems.
