Bhubaneswar: A day before the elections to urban local bodies, two prominent leaders of ruling BJD and opposition BJP were engaged in a Twitter duel over ‘money for votes’ issue.
Bhubaneswar MP of BJP started with a retweet to a video which showed workers of ruling BJD purportedly distributing money in Odisha’s Keonjhar.
“How pathetic this is! I wonder if the cost price of votes vary from place to place. How insecure BJD is! Can’t it win without distributing money? They ought to have self- confidence enough,” the MP said in the tweet.
Aparajita followed it up with another retweet, challenging BJD to win an election without distributing money. “Pl don’t purchase votes – BJD. Our Odiya brothers & sisters are being humiliated & misled. Videos are coming in large numbers. Pictures don’t lie,” she said in the tweet.
Countering the allegations of the MP, BJD spokesperson Sulata Deo advised Aparajita not to insult 4.5 crore Odias as they are self-respecting people.
“Seems you have conceded defeat in Bhubaneswar Mayor election and therefore, creating an excuse to save face before your national leadership by tagging them,” said Sulata in the tweet.
