Uliburu mining scam accused Deepak Gupta hospitalised
Keonjhar: Uliburu mining scam prime accused Deepak Gupta was admitted to district headquarters hospital in Keonjhar after he complained of acute chest pain on Friday night.
According to reports, Gupta fell unconscious at Keonjhar jail around 9 pm. He was shifted to district headquarters hospital after jail doctors conducted a preliminary check up of his health condition.
Notably, Orissa High Court had refused to grant him bail on August 24. This was the fourth time that his bail application was rejected by the court.
Gupta was arrested on September 5, 2013, by state vigilance and is currently facing trial on the charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act and IPC sections including 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery) and 409 (criminal breach of trust).
It is alleged that Gupta in connivance with mining, forest and revenue officials, and mining lease holders created fake documents and excavated iron ore causing loss to the state exchequer to the tune of over Rs 1,500 crore.
