New Delhi: Umar Khalid, an accused in the 2020 north-east Delhi riots case, returned to Tihar Jail on Saturday as the interim bail to attend his sister’s wedding ended.
An activist and former Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student, Khalid was released from jail on December 23 on the order of a Delhi court. He was asked to surrender on December 30.
Umar Khalid’s father SQR Ilyas took to Twitter to inform that his son has gone back to prison.
“#UmarKhalid has gone back to prison after attending his sister’s wedding. We got a glimpse of the life Umar deserves, spending time with family and friends. Now we wait and hope for justice to prevail,” Ilyas tweeted.
The court had barred Khalid from interacting with the media or using any social media platform while he was on interim bail.
