Bhubaneswar: Amid threats from Khalistani separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun to disrupt the ongoing DGP-IGP conference, a unclaimed hand bag created a flutter at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar on Saturday before it was cleared by security personnel.
According to sources, CISF personnel soon inspected the bag with dog squad and found that it did not contain anything suspicious. “It will handed over to the passenger once the identity is established,” said a police officer.
Earlier in the day, a few journalists in Odisha found a threat mail from the extremist, declaring December 1 as D-Day and asking people of Odisha to avoid travelling by air, in their inbox at 9.04 and its Odia translation at 10.46 am. A Crime Branch team has reached the office of a journalist to ascertain the source of the email.
Speaking to the media, Bhubaneswar DCP Pinak Mishra said that a foolproof security arrangement is in place for the 3-day DGP-IGP conference in the city. “The event venue has been secured with three-layer security. A special operation unit has also been deployed to thwart any subversive activities,” he said.
He added that all inputs are being verified. “Special tactical unit has also been deployed at the airport,” he added.
