Cuttack: An undertrial prisoner was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Sisua sub-jail in Cuttack on Wednesday.
The deceased was identified as Ghanashayam Prusty (22), a native of Paika Sahi under Salepur police limits. He was arrested on August 12 in connection with illegal sale of liquor and sent to Sisua sub-jail after being remanded to judicial custody.
According to the sources, Prusty was rushed to Salepur hospital after he was found vomiting blood. However, doctors declared him brought dead.
The police have seized the body and sent it for postmortem. Investigation into the matter is underway, the sources added.
On August 31, an undertrial prisoner of Nimapara sub-jail in Puri district had died during treatment.
The deceased prisoner was identified as Munabara Biswal, hailing from Astaranga in the district. He was lodged behind the bars in a murder case.
According to sources, Biswal was rushed to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar after he fell sick. However, he died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Similarly on August 28, an undertrial prisoner lodged in Jharsuguda sub-jail died at the district headquarters hospital. The deceased, identified as Binod Kishan (34), had been behind bars since June 18, 2014, for his alleged involvement in a murder case.
Soon after the prayer in the jail, the prisoner complained of uneasiness, following which he was immediately taken to the district headquarters hospital, where the doctors declared him brought dead.
