Bhubaneswar: The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Odisha State Council welcomed the Union Budget 2026-27, describing it as a forward-looking and growth-oriented budget that will significantly benefit the state across manufacturing, services, tourism and skill development.

A live Budget viewing session was organised at Bhubaneswar on Sunday morning as Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Budget in Parliament.

“The Union Budget 2026-27 brings multiple benefits for Odisha. The focus on semiconductors and the development of National Waterways in the state has significantly enhanced Odisha’s prominence at the national level. This budget will further strengthen the country’s economy and support India’s journey towards becoming the world’s third-largest economy in the coming years,” opined Sashi Sekhar Mohanty, former Chairman, CII Odisha State Council, and CEO & Managing Director, Essar Minmet Limited.

Dr Pradipta Mohanty, immediate past Chairman, CII Odisha State Council, and Chairman of SNM Group, said the strategic emphasis placed on manufacturing will act as a key driver of economic growth and employment generation.

“Odisha stands to benefit immensely from the budget’s focus on manufacturing, services, tourism, and skill development. Strategic importance given to manufacturing will boost industrial growth and create large-scale employment. Specific initiatives such as the Cashew Processing and Coconut Promotion Schemes will directly support agro-based industries in the state. The emphasis on tourism, healthcare, and the service sector further strengthens Odisha’s development trajectory,” Mohanty said.

According to Manikant Naik, CII Odisha State Council member, and Tata Steel SEZ MD, the Budget presents a forward-looking roadmap for India’s economic growth with a strong emphasis on sustained economic expansion.

“The enhanced focus on capital expenditure reinforces the government’s commitment to boosting employment generation and strengthening the manufacturing ecosystem. For Odisha, targeted initiatives in inland waterways, rare earth sectors and tourism unlock immense potential, contributing significantly to both the state’s progress and the nation’s overall development,” Naik expressed.

Swayam Baral, Convenor, Startup and Innovation Panel, CII Odisha State Council, and Managing Director at Swadesh Infra Marketing Pvt. Ltd, described the ‘historic’ budget as reform-driven.

“I would like to thank Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman ji for this landmark budget, which builds on the two major reforms undertaken last year in Income Tax and Goods and Services Tax (GST). The Union Budget 2026–27 reinforces the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat, making Indian corporates globally competitive. The enhanced focus on MSMEs will ensure improved liquidity and strengthen the backbone of the economy,” Baral stated.

Overall, CII Odisha believes that the Union Budget 2026 has struck the right balance between growth, reforms and inclusivity, and will play a pivotal role in accelerating industrialisation, employment generation, and sustainable development in Odisha.
