Bhubaneswar: The Union Cabinet has approved opening of 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) across the country, including 8 in Odisha.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, at its meeting on Friday extended its approval to the new Kendriya Vidyalayas under Civil/Defence sector. The Cabinet also approved expansion of existing KV at Shivamogga in Karnataka, a release from CCEA stated.
The requirement of funds for establishment of new KVs and expansion of existing KV has been estimated at Rs 5872.08 crore spread over eight years from 2025-26. This includes capital expenditure component of Rs 2862.71 crore and operational expenditure of Rs 3009.37 crore.
In Odisha, the new KVs will be opened at Titlagarh and Patnagarh in Balangir district, Khurda, Athmallik and Talcher in Angul, Kuchinda in Sambalpur, Dhenkanal and Jeypore in Koraput.
At present, there are 1256 KVs, including 3 abroad at Moscow, Kathmandu and Tehran and approximately 13.56 lakh students are studying in these KVs.
