New Delhi: The Centre has taken note of Baba Ramdev’s recent observations on allopathic and modern medicines, and conveyed the message that he should withdraw those comments.
Union Health minister Dr Harsh Vardhan stated in a tweet that the yoga guru’s remarks have hurt the sentiments of doctors who are fighting the coronavirus pandemic.
“The doctors fighting the Covid-19 pandemic day and night, are akin to deities for the people of the nation. Baba @yogrishiramdev has hurt the sentiments of the nation, as it disrespected the corona warriors. I have written a letter to him asking him to withdraw his objectionable statement,” the Health minister wrote.
Vardhan said that Ramdev terming allopathic practices as ‘tamasha’ and ‘bekaar’ were unfortunate, and highlighted the fact that the current recovery rate and low case fatality rate in India is due to stellar efforts of the doctors only.
Ramdev was heard referring to allopathy as a “stupid and diwaliya science” in a recent video. He also said: “Lakho logo ki maut Allopathy ki dawai khane se hui hai.”
Livid with Ramdev’s insensitive comments, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) threatened to move court if the Health ministry does not take suo motu cognisance the yoga guru’s “false and baseless” statements.
