Sambalpur: Union Home Minister Amit Shah will attend several programmes in Sambalpur during his two-day visit to Odisha, informed BJP MLA Jaynarayan Mishra on Saturday.
Speaking to the media on the Union Minister’s schedule in the city, Mishra said Shah will go directly to Samaleswari Temple on arrival on December 28 and offer prayer. Then will attend a programme at Gangadhar Meher College and then proceed to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla.
Shah will inaugurate the Super Specialty Building of VIMSAR and attend a few other government programmes as well, Mishra added.
Shah’s visit assumes significance as he was in the state from November 29 to December 1 to attend the DGP-IGP meet in Bhubaneswar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also attended the crucial event.
Union Home Minister Shah is likely to attend a few programmes as part of BJP’s efforts to further strengthen the party organisation in the state.
Ahead of Shah’s visit, speculations are rife that he may hold discussion with state leaders of BJP on possible expansion of the ministry. With the Mohan Majhi government completing six months in power, the reports of inclusion of more ministers have been making rounds. At present, there are 16 ministers in the Majhi government.
Shah may also discuss the election of new state BJP president. The present state president, Manmohan Samal, was appointed as an interim arrangement on January 23, 2023 in view of general elections this year.
Shah is also likely to review the preparation for the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention to be held in Bhubaneswar for the first time. The convention is scheduled to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi on January 9, while President Droupadi Murmu is likely to attend the valedictory session the next day.
