Union Minister Stresses Tech Transfer To Farmers During Visit To CIFA In Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar: Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying and Panchayati Raj SP Singh Baghel on Sunday emphasised on transfer of technologies to the farming community.
The minister expressed this during a visit to the ICAR-Central Institute of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA) in Bhubaneswar. Reviewing freshwater aquaculture research activities being carried out by the institute, he stressed that farm research would play a significant role in making India a developed country.
The minister was apprised of more than 23 different fish varieties including genetically improved Rohu ‘Jayanti’, catla, scampi, minor carps, catfishes, murrel, anabas, pearl mussel and others.
Different aquaculture systems such as pond culture, bio-floc and aquaponics were presented and gadgets, feed formulations and therapeutics developed by the institute were displayed during the minister’s visit.
Baghel reviewed the progress of Central schemes on animal husbandry and fisheries being operated in Odisha. Officials from Fisheries and Animal Resources Development department of the state government attended the review meeting.
PK Sahoo, Director, ICAR-CIFA, made a presentation on the ongoing research activities and the vision 2047. He also appraised the minister about 100-day action plan of the Institute.
