Unit-I Market Shifted To New Location As COVID Active Cases Cross 9K In Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar: To ensure social distancing at marketplaces in the Odisha capital, the Unit-I Haat (vegetable market) was shifted to the Unit-I Boys High School playground on Wednesday.
The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has asked the vendors to maintain a minimum distance of 8 feet between two shops and circles have been marked for customers to maintain social distancing of 6 feet.
The vendors have been directed to make sure that the customers adhere to COVID-appropriate behaviour and warned of stringent action in case of any violation of the norms.
Earlier, Unit-IV haat was shifted near Red Cross Bhawan.
On January 10, the civic body had decided to decentralise markets after it was observed that proper social distancing was not being maintained in crowded market places/haats of Bhubaneswar like Unit-I wholesale market and Unit-IV markets.
Notably, Bhubaneswar has been reporting over 1,000 fresh COVID cases for the last 6 days and active cases have mounted 9496.
