New Delhi: The CBI on Wednesday charged BJP legislator Kuldeep Singh Sengar and 10 others for murder in connection with the accident case of Unnao rape survivor.
Notably, an over-speeding truck had hit the vehicle in which the teenage survivor, her family and lawyer were travelling in Rae Bareli, UP on Sunday, killing two people. The girl and her lawyer were critically injured.
The accident had triggered widespread protests against the UP government for failing to provide security to the teen, who has accused the BJP MLA of raping her.
On Tuesday, the Centre had handed over the probe to CBI following a recommendation by the UP government. A day earlier on Monday, UP police had filed a murder case against Sengar and nine others after the girl’s family filed a complaint, alleging “conspiracy” behind the accident.
Now, according to procedure, CBI has taken over the probe into the accident case from UP police and re-registered an FIR.
The agency has also alerted its officials, who may visit the accident site and take details from police officials of Gurubakshganj police station in Rae Bareli, where the accident took place.
