Bhubaneswar: Unreserved train tickets will be issued in Odia language as well from the Odisha Diwas this year, an official of the East Coast Railway (ECoR) said on Friday.
Railways have prepared all station names of Indian Railways in Odia script which will now be implemented in 317 Stations in Odisha for the stations under East Coast Railway, South Eastern Railway and South East Central Railway jurisdictions, principle chief commercial manager Ajoy Behera said.
He said the database of more than 8000 station names in Odia Script has been prepared by ECoR with technical support from CRIS, Kolkata as a passenger-friendly initiative.
Currently, the unreserved tickets are issued in Hindi and English only.
“Many people who had the problem reading English and Hindi languages on train tickets, unsure about right tickets with respect to intended originating and destination stations, as well as class of travel and train type, can now read the same in Odia script,” Behera said.
On Thursday, Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had requested Railway Minister Piyush Goyal to explore the option of printing rail tickets in the local vernacular language in Odia language as well.
