Puri: The Puri municipality authorities on Tuesday demolished the Mahodadhi market complex at Mochi Sahi.
As many as 58 shops and the office of Sahayog Cooperative Society were razed in the presence of the local magistrate and a platoon of police force.
Built in 1968, the market building complex was declared unsafe by the district administration last year.
Puri sub-collector Bhabatarana Sahu told the media that the district administration had issued a notice to the traders to vacate the building by October 14.
He said a multi-storey market complex will be built at the site and the evicted traders can run their business from the new building.
