Ghazipur: Several bloated and decayed bodies of COVID-19 victims washed up on the banks of Ganga in Ghazipu district of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday.
The shocking incident comes a day after similar sightings were reported on the banks of the river in Chausa block of Bihar’s Buxar district.
The bodies are suspected to be those of COVID-19 patients who were dumped in the river.
The Ghazipur District Magistrate, MP Singh, said an investigation has been launched to figure out where the bodies have come from. “We got the information, our officers are present on the spot and an investigation is underway. We are trying to find out where they came from,” the DM said.

On their part, locals claimed that it is a common sight nowadays as people have started immersing the bodies of their relatives into the river as crematoriums overwhelmed with the number of bodies daily are running out of firewood.
They alleged that those manning the cremation ghats were charging a exorbitant money whenever people reached there with a body of a dead COVID patient.
“So many bereaved family members are impelled to immerse the bodies of their departed relatives in the river,” a villager was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
