Updates On Samaleswari Express Derailment
Rayagada: Coaches of Howrah-Jagdalpur Samaleswari Express, whose engine had derailed near Rayagada on Friday afternoon, were brought back to Singapur Road station at 8.05 PM.
The incident took place around 5.16 pm when the train was on its way to Jagdalpur.
According to East Coast Railway (ECoR) sources,
- Rerailment was completed at 22.15 hrs. Line is expected to be clear soon. The train too is ready at Rayagada. It will depart after Relief Train reaches Keutiguda, where Koraput-Rourkela train is waiting. That will come to Singapur Road.
- Food and water bottles were served to passengers (free of cost) at Singapur Road and Rayagada.
- Train finally departed from Rayagada at 22.40 hrs and from Singapur Road at 22.52 hrs.
- It will pass the accident site at reduced /cautious speed of 10 kph.
- The Relief Train had earlier departed from Rayagada at 8.35 pm and Singapur Road at 8.07 pm.
- Coaches were brought to Singapur Road and then to Rayagada.
- An extra engine was also sent to the site to get the coaches back to Singapur Road.
- Then, Relief Train from Rayagada reached the site and rerailed the engine.
- The Relief Train then brought back the rerailed engine to Rayagada and the original coaches moved from Singapur Road to Koraput.
- The ECoR expected the operation to continue till 10 pm.
Earlier talking to the media, ECoR chief public relations officer (CPRO) J P Mishra had confirmed that the two front wheels of the engine had derailed while all the bogies of the express train are on the track. “There is no loss of life,” he added.
Besides, an incident of uncoupling of a goods train was reported between Sikir and Titlagarh stations. The ECoR sources said the loco pilot coupled the wagons and the train then left for Titlagarh.
