Uproar In Odisha Assembly As Speaker Rejects BJD’s Adjournment Motion Pleas

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Assembly witnessed acrimonious scenes on Thursday as BJD members accused the Mohan Majhi government of stalling development works at 314 blocks of the state.

The Opposition trooped into the well of the House and raised slogans as Speaker Surama Padhy rejected the demand of BJD MLAs, Arun Sahoo and Ganeswar Behera, for an adjournment motion over the issue. Unable to conduct the proceeding, the Speaker then adjourned the House till 4 pm.

Speaking to media, Sahoo alleged that people of over 50,000 village are aggrieved as the government is showing no interest in taking up the development works. “An unwritten notification has been issued, asking the authorities concerned not to take up the works started by the previous government. We have given three adjournment notices and those have been rejected as the government is reluctant to discuss the issue,” he further claimed.

He added this was an urgent matter.

On Tuesday, the House was adjourned several times as the Opposition stepped up the demand for a caste census in the state and reservation of seats in educational institutions for SCs, STs and OBCs as per their population.
