Mumbai: A labourer working on a Metro railway project was killed and another seriously injured when a car owned by popular Marathi actor Urmila Kothare ran over them in Kandivli area.
The driver and the actor, who works in Marathi films, television and web series, also suffered injuries.
According to police, Urmila was returning home after a shoot in the early hours of Saturday when her driver lost control of the Hyundai Verna and hit the labourers working at Poisar Metro station.
One of the labourers died on the spot and the other was rushed to hospital where he is battling for survival. The driver also suffered grievous injuries.
The car, travelling at a high speed, was badly damaged as is evident from images from the accident site. Urmila escaped with minor injuries due to the airbag deploying in time.

A case has been filed against the driver under BNS sections related to rash driving and causing death by negligence.
Police have registered a case against the driver at Samata Nagar Police Station and started an investigation.
Urmila, who featured in films like ‘Duniyadaari’, ‘Shubh Mangal Saavdhan’ and ‘Ti Sadhya Kay Karte’, recently made a comeback to the small screen after a 12-year hiatus.
Urmila’s husband is actor-director Addinath Kothare, who happens to be the son of renowned filmmaker Mahesh Kothare.
