Washington: The United States has announced that its Air Forces Central Command will conduct a multi-day readiness exercise across West Asia, underscoring Washington’s ongoing military posture amid heightened tensions with Iran and broader regional instability, reports said.
According to a statement from US Central Command, the exercise — led by the Ninth Air Force (Air Forces Central) — is designed to demonstrate and validate the US military’s ability to rapidly deploy, disperse and sustain combat airpower across its area of responsibility.
Activities will include deploying aircraft and personnel to multiple contingency locations,
testing rapid launch and recovery procedures, besides conducting operations with minimal logistical footprints. All actions are to be carried out with host-nation approvals and in coordination with civil and military aviation authorities, the reports said.
The announcement follows the recent arrival of the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier strike group in the region — a significant reinforcement of U.S. naval firepower — and the deployment of fighter jets and support vessels under the US Central Command. The movements reflect a substantial bid by the Pentagon to enhance readiness and deterrence amid concerns about a potential escalation with Iran.
US officials have framed the drill as a readiness measure rather than a direct precursor to offensive operations, emphasizing strengthened regional partnerships and integrated multinational command and control capabilities. The exercise is also seen as reinforcing US commitments to allies in the Middle East who face security threats from ballistic missiles, proxy forces, and other destabilizing factors, the reports said.
White House representatives say President Donald Trump remains open to diplomatic engagement but has underscored US resolve to protect its forces and interests in the region.
Iran has warned that any hostile actions would meet a strong response. Several Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, have signaled reluctance to support offensive operations from their territories.
