Bhubaneswar: A poor Odisha girl’s dream of becoming a doctor is soon going to see the light of the day as a US-based foundation has come forward to finance her studies.
California’s ‘Saloni Heart Foundation’ has awarded a scholarship to Krishna Mohanty from Odisha for pursuing her medical studies at the state-run MKCG Medical College in Berhampur. The foundation will be bearing the girl’s college, food and hostel expenses.
Saloni’s Founder, Himanshu Seth, said that the board members of the foundation have decided to finance one medical aspirant like Krishna Mohanty every year.
The girl prepared for her NEET exam with the help of an NGO-run foundation ‘Zindagi’, shared an office-bearer of the NGO on Monday.
Ajay Bahadur Singh, an educationist who runs the ‘Zindagi’ foundation revealed that Mohanty was struggling to bear the expenses of her studies as she is a fatherless child and her mother’s income was not adequate.
The US-based foundation, with eminent personalities like former AIIMS director P Venugopal, Dr Mohan Reddy and Dr Lilian Su of Stanford Children Hospital on board, aims at providing free online assistance to the needy in India, he added.
