Coronavirus deaths in the United States rose by 1,997 in the last 24 hours, taking the toll to 40,565.
Governor of New York Andrew Cuomo on Sunday said that the pandemic is “past the high point”. The state saw a reduction in hospitalizations from 18,000 to 16,000 and also reduction in number of patients requiring ventilators.
Meanwhile, about 200 people protested the stay-at-home order outside the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus, raising voices against the businesses arbitrarily deemed non-essential. Similarly, in Austin, Texas, protesters were seen chanting “USA! USA!” and “Let us work!”
President Donald Trump seemed to be encouraging protestors who want these measures removed sooner. He tweeted calling them to “LIBERATE” Michigan, Minnesota and Virginia – states run by Democratic governors.
United States has the highest number of deaths and positive cases (764,265). A little more than 71,000 people have recovered so far.
