Tehran: US-Israeli strikes slammed a quay at Bandar Khamir, an Iranian port city in Hormozgan province near the strategic Strait of Hormuz, on Sunday, killing five people and injuring four others, according to Iranian state media.
The attack, which also destroyed two vessels, marked a sharp escalation in the ongoing US-Israel-Iran conflict that erupted in late February 2026, drawing in regional players like the Houthis.
“The American-Zionist enemy carried out a criminal attack at the quay of Bandar Khamir, killing five people and injuring four others,” the official IRNA news agency reported.
Bandar Khamir’s proximity to the Strait of Hormuz—a narrow waterway handling roughly one-fifth of global oil trade—raises alarms over potential disruptions to energy supplies amid the intensifying war.
Simultaneously, a series of loud explosions rocked Iran’s capital Tehran, with blasts heard across northern areas and smoke billowing from impacted sites. It was not immediately clear what was hit.
