US Spas Shooting: 6 Asian Women Among 8 Dead; Suspect Nabbed
Washington: Eight people, including six women of Asian descent, were shot dead in a massage parlour and two day spas in the Atlanta area on Tuesday. A man suspected of carrying out the attacks was nabbed in southern Georgia hours after the incident, police said.
The rampage started at around 5 pm local time when four victims succumbed to bullet injuries and one wounded in a shooting incident at Young’s Asian Massage in Cherokee County, about 40 miles north of Atlanta, Captain Jay Baker of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department informed.
A couple of women of Asian descent were among the dead, along with a white woman and a white man, according to Baker. He added that the surviving victim was a Hispanic man.
While probing into the initial shooting report, the officers were called to a second spa across the street where a fourth woman was found dead of a gunshot wound, Police chief Rodney Bryant said. All four victims slain in Atlanta were of Asian descent.
Twenty-one-year-old Robert Aaron Long of Woodstock in Cherokee County, was taken into custody at about 8.30 pm in Crisp County, about 150 miles (240 km) south of Atlanta, reported Reuters.
