Washington: The US administration has a new theory on novel coronavirus: that a Chinese lab in Wuhan let it escape.
There’s no concrete evidence, but President Donald Trump and some of his officials are once again trying to blame China for the thousands of deaths caused by the global COVID-19 pandemic.
“More and more, we’re hearing the story,” said Trump.
His Secretary of State Mike Pompeo added: “The mere fact that we don’t know the answers… that China hasn’t shared the answers. I think is very, very telling.”
The jury is still out, as scientific research is still being conducted in different countries. But most experts feel that the analysis done so far on the new coronavirus’ genome doesn’t suggest that it was could have been designed by human beings.
On the possibility of the virus being let loose from a laboratory in China, Nathan Grubaugh has this to say: “I would put it on a list of 1,000 different scenarios.” Grubaugh of Yale University studies the epidemiology of microbial disease.
