Bhubaneswar: Expressing deep condolences on the demise of Ollywood legend, Uttam Mohanty, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday midnight took to social media to share that the actor’s last rites will be performed with full state honours.
“For more than two decades, he was an undisputed hero of Odia cinema. He was an icon of Odia art world. He took Odia film world to a higher level by acting in many Bengali and even Hindi films along with Odia. His demise is an irreparable loss for the Odia art world,” the translated version of a post composed in Odia from the Chief Minister’s office on X read.

The 66-year-old actor died Thursday evening while undergoing treatment at Medant Hospital in Gurugram, in the southwest of New Delhi. He was suffering from some liver ailments, reports claimed. He had developed some health complications while shooting for ‘Bou Butu Bhoota’ outside Odisha and was admitted to the ICU of a private hospital in Bhubaneswar on February 5.
He was later put on ventilator support. He returned home after treatment. But again his health deteriorated a couple of days ago and he was rushed to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. Later, he was put on the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital as he was suffering from liver cirrhosis. His family members airlifted him to the Medant Hospital after his condition deteriorated and he needed organ support.
Born and brought up in Baripada, Mohanty had made a foray into acting during his college days and acted in 135 Odia and 30 Bengali films. He won accolades for his stellar performance in Danda Balunga, Jahaku Rakhibe Ananta, Rajanigandha, Chaka Bhaunri, Daiba Daudi, Kanya Dana, Chaka Akhi Sabu Dekhuchi, Pua Mora Kala Thakura and Lakhe Shiba Puji Paichhi Pua among others. He also acted in a Hindi film Naya Zaher.
His wife, Aparajita, and son Babushan are also actors.
