Bhubaneswar: An MP/MLA court at Rampur in Uttar Pradesh has order the police to arrest veteran actress and politician Jaya Prada.
As per reports, the SP has been directed to form a special team to arrest the former MP and present her in the court. The court issued the order after Jaya Prada failed to appear before it on Monday for hearing even after a non-bailable warrant had been issued against her for seventh time, a news agency quoted senior prosecution officer Amarnath Tiwari as saying.
This is not the first time that Jaya has been embroiled in legal controversy. The actress was convicted in a case by a court in Chennai last year. She was sentenced to six months in jail and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000. She was accused of not paying the ESI money to workers of her theatre.
Jaya admitted to the charges and sought dismissal of the case after promising to clear the dues. But the court turned down her appeal and imposed a fine and imprisonment.
Jaya Prada has worked in several Hindi and Tamil films from 1970s to 1990s.
