Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh will get the highest number of international airports in India, the state government said on Monday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the foundation laying ceremony of the Noida International Airport at Jewar on November 25.
Currently, the state has eight operational airports, while 13 airports and seven airstrips are being developed, reported news agency PTI.
“With the ground breaking and foundation laying ceremony of the Noida International Airport scheduled on November 25, the state is now on its way to have five international airports — the highest for any state in India,” the Yogi Adityanath-led state government said via a statement.
Till 2012, Uttar Pradesh had only a couple of international airports — Lucknow and Varanasi. PM Modi inaugurated the third international airport on October 20 and work is in full swing for the airport in Ayodhya, which is expected to start air services early next year, according to the statement.
The fifth international airport will come up at Jewar near Noida in the National Capital Region (NCR).
“The unique distinction of Uttar Pradesh in providing unmatched air connectivity in the country is in keeping with the government’s commitment to ensure uninterrupted multi-modal connectivity on land, railways, water and air,” UP government was quoted as saying in a statement by the agency.
“The Prime Minister’s Gati Shakti National Master Plan has infused a sense of urgency into the plans for infrastructure development in the state,” the statement said.
