Mumbai: ‘Citadel: Honey Bunny’ actor Varun Dhawan, who has been in the industry for a decade now, expressed that it’s time for Bollywood to reinvent itself or else it will lose its charm and relevance.
During a conversation with Ranveer Allahabadia on his podcast, Varun stated that it’s time for the ruling Khans — Shah Rukh, Salman and Aamir — and other top-notch actors to understand that it’s time for a change.
The actor continued that Shah Rukh and Salman should now stop doing the same thing which they have been doing for years and take up roles suitable for their age.
“We will all have to go ahead. People who are in the powerful positions right now, there is an age limit, those who are doing the same thing for years. They are only at the helm. I am not sure if they recognise it but it is important to change with time. We all will have to do it or we’ll lose relevance, including me. It is difficult because you don’t want to change,” said Varun.
He added, “The upcoming stars or the ones who are still aspiring have these circles but those who are already on that stature, they don’t have these people around them. Stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, they are not delulu (delusional). They are aware of what’s happening.”
The actor believes that with more options, entering the film industry has become a ‘bit tough’ now. Youngsters now have a choice to decide whether they want to become an actor, an influencer or an OTT star.
Varun will next be seen in ‘Baby John’ in which he plays the role of a police officer and single father, who is not afraid to confront adversaries head-on.
The film also features Wamiqa Gabbi, Keerthy Suresh and Jackie Shroff in key roles and has a cameo by Salman.
‘Baby John’ is slated to hit the big screens on Christmas.
