Varun Scores Brace As India Finish Fifth In Azlan Shah Hockey

Ipoh: Varun Kumar netted two goals through penalty corner as India beat Ireland 4-1 to finish fifth at the 27th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup in Ipoh, Malaysia.

Odia lad Shilanand Lakra (28’) and Gurjant Singh (37’) netted the other two goals while the lone goal for Ireland was scored by Julian Dale (48’). In the last pool game, Ireland had beat India 3-2 to deny chances of bronze medal play-off.

Australia beat England 2-1 to emerge champions in the tournament. For the bronze medal match, Argentina got better off hosts Malaysia and defeated them 3-2 to secure the third position.
