Jharsuguda: On the occasion of World Environment Day on Tuesday, the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Department of Vedanta Ltd, Jharsuguda, concluded its weeklong celebrations with a mass plantation drive.
Led by Vedanta, Jharsuguda CEO Abhijit Pati, more than thousand employees of Vedanta and its partner companies gathered for the mass plantation drive.
Speaking on the occasion, Pati said, “We are sincerely committed to a greener and more sustainable future for our future generations. It is a continuous and dedicated effort on our part. We will intensify it in future.”
The bio-investment agenda chalked out for 2018-2019 includes a target of planting 50,000 saplings inside plant premises and 10,000 saplings in the community, he informed.
Till date, Vedanta, Jharsuguda has planted more than 5 lakh trees inside the plant periphery and over 1.5 lakh trees in the community, which includes areas like Beherapat, Lohandaguda, Banjari and more.
The closing ceremony included an oath-taking ceremony and skit presentation. Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology VC Prof Atal Chaudhuri was present as the chief guest.
In the week preceding World Environment Day, various competitions were held for employees, partners companies and family members with an intention to provide impetus to their efforts directed at a cleaner and greener environment.
