Cuttack: The preliminary probe into the collapse of an under-construction bridge in Odisha’s Cuttack has found that a sidewall caved in under the weight of constant vehicular movement on the old structure.
“We will seek a technical report from the Roads and Building department after which a detailed report will be prepared and submitted to the RDC,” Cuttack district Collector Bhabani Shankar Chayani was quoted as saying in a news report.
Two persons were killed and another was injured when the bridge on the Chhatra Bazar-Malgodown road collapsed on Wednesday.
Vehicular movement on the bridge has been suspended following the incident.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced ex-gratia of Rs 3 lakh to the kin of the deceased and ordered an RDC-level probe.
