Bhubaneswar: Odisha may continue to experience very heavy rain and gusty wind along the coast on Monday under the influence of the Deep Depression over Gangetic West Bengal and and adjoining Jharkhand, which is expected to weaken into a Depression during the next 12 hours.

The system is then expected to move west-northwestwards across Jharkhand and North Chhattisgarh during the subsequent 24 hours, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Orange warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) has been issued for at isolated places in Sundargarh and Keonjhar districts. Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) may also occur at isolated places in Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, and Angul.

The weather agency has also warned of low flash flood risk in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, Baragarh, Jharsuguda, Sonepur, Sambalpur and Sundargarh districts during the next 24 hours. Mudslides/landslides in vulnerable hilly areas are also likely along with temporary waterlogging in low-lying areas and underpass road, poor visibility during intense spell of rain and traffic congestion in urban areas. There is also possibility of some damages to unmetalled roads, kutcha houses and vegetables and horticultural crops likely.

It further said that squally wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph is likely to prevail along and off north Odisha coasts and adjoining north Bay of Bengal during the next 6 hours. It is likely to become 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph by evening and decrease further.

Rough to very rough sea condition may prevail over north Bay of Bengal and along and off West Bengal-Odisha coasts during the next 6 hours. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into north Bay of Bengal and along and off Odisha coasts during till September 16.

Though there are no weather warning for next two days, light to moderate rain/thundershower may continue at a few places across the state.

The IMD has again sounded yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning for isolated places in Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Kandhamal on September 19 and Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, and Nabarangpur on September 20.

Light to moderate rain/thundershower may occur at a few places in South Odisha and at one or two places in North Odisha during the subsequent 2 days.
