Very Heavy Rain To Continue In Odisha Today; Yellow Alert For Bhubaneswar & Cuttack Till 4.30PM
Bhubaneswar: While the low-pressure area continues to persist over south Jharkhand and neighbourhood, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued yellow warning for some places in 16 districts of Odisha, including the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack till 4.25 pm.
Light to moderate rain/thundershower with lightning is likely in some parts of Angul, Keonjhar, Balasore, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Bhadrak, Puri, Kalahandi, Khurda, Kandhamal and Mayurbhanj during these 3 hours. People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strikes.
Notably, the weather agency has predicted light/moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall/thunderstorm and lightning with isolated heavy rainfall over north Odisha on October 2, 3 and 7.
Orange warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) has been issued for one or two places in Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj till 8.30 am on Wednesday. Heavy rainfall may also occur at one or two places in Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Boudh, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur districts.
The yellow warning of heavy rainfall continues for one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Kendrapada during the subsequent 24 hours.
While light to moderate rain may continue in the state, there are no more heavy rain warning.
The IMD further informed that Odisha recorded extreme rainfall of 26.8 mm in the last 24 hours, which is 477% more than the usual 4.6 mm. The state received 238% more rainfall between September 1 and October 3.
