Very Heavy Rain To Lash Odisha Today; Spell Intensity To Gradually Decrease Thereafter
Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to experience heavy to very heavy rain for three days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Tuesday.
There is a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) and thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput and Nabarangpur districts till 8.30 am on Wednesday. Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) and thunderstorm with lightning may also occur at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Nayagarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sambalpur, Boudh, Sonepur, Kendrapada, Cuttack and Deogarh.
Bhubaneswar is likely to experience cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers.
Heavy rain may continue at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur and Deogarh during the subsequent 24 hours.
On Thursday, heavy rain is likely at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Deogarh districts.
Though there is no warning thereafter, light to moderate rain/thundershower may continue across the state till August 12.
In the last 24 hours, Boudh recorded the highest 15 cm rainfall followed by Ullunda, Birmaharajpur and Binika in Sonepur at 14, 11 and 1 cm respectively.
Odisha has received cumulative rainfall of 560.3mm against the normal of 629.3mm between June 1 and August 6, which is a deficit of 11%. While Malkangiri has recorded excess rain, 15 districts are in normal and 11 in deficit category.
