Puri: Veteran Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty visited Puri town in Odisha to offer prayer at Shree Jagannath Temple and seek the blessings of the sibling deities.
Mithun visited the 12th century shrine on Sunday night on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya for darshan of the deities, sources said.
Before entering the temple, the actor-turned-politician stated that he has received plenty of love and affection in Odisha, particularly in the seaside pilgrim town of Puri.
Accompanied by senior BJP leader Sambit Patra, the veteran actor was welcomed by temple servitors near the Singhdwar. Senior sevayat Madhusudan Singhari was also present.
Before entering the temple, Mithun bowed before Patitapabana near Singhadwar. Apart from seeking the blessings of the trinity in the sanctum sanctorum of the main shrine, he offered Puja at the shrine of Bimala Devi, goddesses Saraswati and Lakshmi and also visited Ananda Bazaar.
The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration had made all arrangements for him to have smooth darshan of the deities.
Before visiting Puri, Mithun performed ‘Akhi Muthi Anukula’ ritual in Pipili on the auspicious occasion of Akshay Tritiya.
Sources said the veteran actor participated in an ‘Akhi Muthi Anukula’event held in Laxmi Narayanpur Panchayat’s Bilipada under Pipili block, organised by BJP.
