New Delhi: Veteran BJP leader LK Advani was admitted to a private hospital in New Delhi for a routine check-up on Saturday (December 14), according to reports. The 96-year-old statesman was in stable condition, reports claimed.
Advani is being looked after Dr Vinit Suri, a senior consultant in the neurology department of Apollo Hospital, PTI reported. This was not the first hospitalization.
In July, he was admitted to Apollo Hospital for a brief period due to old age-related ailments. Previously, he was also admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for similar reasons.
In 1927, he was born in Karachi (now in Pakistan). Advani has had a distinguished career in Indian politics. He joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) at 14 and later became a founding member of the BJP in 1980.
He had held important portfolios in the government, including Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Home Affairs in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government from 1999 to 2004. In the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, he was named the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate.
