Bhubaneswar: Veterinarians must treat animals and birds with compassion as the creatures understand the language of love even though they may not be able to express their feelings,
“Showing compassion would enhance the quality of treatment,” Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA) Vice-President Saswati Das said on Friday while speaking at ‘Vetrix-2024’, the annual function of Institute of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry (IVSAH), SOA’s faculty of veterinary sciences.
SOA Vice-Chancellor Prof. Pradipta Kumar Nanda said SOA had set up three medical college hospitals and a corporate hospital in the state for treating human beings, and added another for the benefit of animals and birds.
Dean of IVSAH Prof. Brahmadev Patnaik and Dean (Students’ Welfare) Prof. Jyoti Ranjan Das also addressed the programme.
Prof. Patnaik said the health of animals and birds was linked to food security and health security of our planet. About 70 per cent of the diseases afflicting humans were derived from animals.
Prof. Susanta Kumar Das, Associate Dean of the institution, presented prizes to students who participated in various competitions held earlier.
