Vice Admiral SH Sarma Cremated With Military Honours In Puri
Puri: Vice Admiral SH Sarma was cremated with full Naval honour at Swargadwara here on Tuesday.
The mortal remains of Vice Admiral Sarma were consigned to flame by his son Captain Naveen Chandra Sarma. His family members, friends and well-wishers besides senior officers of Indian Navy and district officials were present.
The district administration had made elaborate arrangements for the cremation. While the Indian Navy gave the gun salute, the district police offered a guard of honour to the Vice Admiral.
A veteran of three wars, Vice Admiral Sarma was recently felicitated by the Centre. On December 1, he celebrated his 100th birthday at his residence in Bhubaneswar. He passed away on Monday.
Vice Admiral Sarma saw action in World War-II and both the 1965 and 1971 wars. His role in the 1971 war against Pakistan, as Fleet Commander in the Bay of Bengal, was pivotal in India’s victory.
