New Delhi: Lieutenant General Chandi Prasad Mohanty, Vice Chief of Army Staff, who retired on Monday, laid a wreath at the National War Memorial here.
Lt Gen Mohanty, a native of Jagatsinghpur district in Odisha, was appointed the Vice Chief of Army Staff on February 1 last year. He was conferred with the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM) by President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhawan last year.
He is also a recipient of Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM), Sena Medal (SM) and Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM).
As the Vice Chief of Army Staff, he executed a number of critical procurement decisions involving emergency procurement to augment preparedness along the Northern borders. He also laid emphasis on modern methods of training to deal with emerging national security challenges.
An alumnus of Rashtriya Indian Military College, Dehradun, National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla and Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, Lt Gen Mohanty was commissioned into the Rajput Regiment on June 12, 1982.
He holds the distinction of commanding two brigades: on the Line of Actual Control and later the UN Brigade in Congo, the ANI reported.
Lt Gen Mohanty also commanded the Sikkim-based Trishakti Corps after the Doklam incident.
He also commanded two administrative formations: the Jodhpur Sub Area as a Major General and Uttar Bharat Area as a Lieutenant General.
Lt Gen Mohanty was an alumnus of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, Higher Defence Management Course, Secunderabad, and the National Defence College, New Delhi.
