Islamabad: Did a donkey really invade Pakistan’s parliament?

A bizarre video, showing a donkey going “full steam” inside what seems to be the Pakistani parliament has gone viral. It has left netizens both amused and sceptical.

In the footage, the animal is seen running across the parliamentary floor while politicians appear startled, with some ducking and others stepping back in confusion. A lawmaker is even seen falling to the floor.

While the clip could be considered entertaining, questions about its authenticity have spread even faster. Zee News has maintained that the authenticity could not be independently verified. Notably, some users on X also suspected that the video had been generated by the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

News Meter reported that it scanned the video and detected certain anomalies. It pointed out that certain elements of the clip including unusual and unnatural movements, and inconsistencies in the way the donkey moved suggest that it may be digitally manipulated. No official confirmation has come until now about the video’s authenticity though.

Despite claims of it being AI generated, sources in Pakistan said that the incident did take place, The animal apparently entered the parliament once and was driven out by security personnel. However, it sprinted back inside, bumping into several MPs before being escorted out again.

Despite doubts about its authenticity, the video has sparked a wave of humour and political commentary online. Social media users have turned the incident into satire, joking about the donkey’s presence in the parliamentary proceedings.

Pakistani senate chairman Yousaf Raza Gillani has been quoted as remarking: “Even the animals want a say in our laws.”

Netizens went berserk though. One of them commented: “Gadho ke parliament mai ek aur gadha aa gaya (One more donkey enters a parliament full of donkeys)”, while another one said: “He’ll go among his own people, had gone to meet family members, friends were there, wanted to say something to them.”
