Mumbai: Vidya Balan’s journey in the film industry has never been cakewalk. Sometimes the actress was trolled for her weight, and at times for her non-filmy looks.
However, despite all the hurdles that came her way, the actress managed to carve a niche for herself with her brilliant acting chops.
Recently, while promoting her much-awaited upcoming film ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’, Vidya shared an instance which made her feel ugly and avoid the mirror for nearly six months.
“I did a Tamil film. I shot for it for two days and then I got replaced. I went with my parents to speak to the producer at his office in Chennai. He showed us some clips from the film and said to my parents, ‘Dekho, kisi angle se heroine dikhti hai (Does she look like a heroine from any angle)? She doesn’t know how to act or dance.’ I was thinking, first let me act and dance; I hardly shot for the film,” Vidya shared with Galatta India.
Recollecting the painful memory, she added, “For six months, I didn’t look at myself in the mirror because I felt ugly. If you want to reject someone, do that, but always be kind with your words because words have the power to be really very damaging or nurturing. I will never forget that. It was an early lesson in life to be kind to people because he really destroyed my self-image for six months.”
Vidya, who forayed into the industry with sitcom ‘Hum Paanch’ in 1995, made it to the big screen with ‘Parineeta’, which also starred Saif Ali Khan and Sanjay Dutt. The actress won National Film Award for ‘The Dirty Picture’ (2011) and ‘Kahaani’ (2012).
Vidya’s latest outing ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’ is the third instalment of her blockbuster movie ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’. It also stars Madhuri Dixit, Kartik Aaryan and Tripti Dimrii in lead roles. Directed by Anees Bazmee, film will be releasing this Diwali.
